
TikTok Personality ‘Why Me’ Faces Hate Speech Charges in Lusaka Court
Francis Kapwepwe , popularly known as WHY ME, has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrate Court for explanation of charges in connection with hate speech.
In this matter, Kapwepwe is facing three counts of hate speech and expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for persons because of race, tribe, place of origin or colour.
When the matter came up before Principal Resident Magistrate, Peter Mungala , Kapwepwe , aged 29, said he understood the charge after it was read to him.
Kapwepwe could however not take plea owing to non-availability of consent from the Director of Public Prosecution -DPP- to prosecute.
State Advocate, Mukuma Chipawa has since applied to adjourn the matter to enable the state obtain a consent to prosecute.
Allegations in the matter are that Kapwepwe, on March 31, 2025, using his TikTok account, called “Why Me the Lion of the World” knowingly without lawful excuse used hate speech against the Tonga people.
In count two, it is alleged that Kapwepwe, on the same social media platform on April 3, 2025, used hate speech against the people of the Southern province.
And in count three, Kapwepwe, on April 8, 2025, on the same TikTok account, uttered words that expressed or showed hatred,ridicule or contempt for the people of the Southern province.
Magistrate Mungala has adjourned the matter to August 26, 2025 for possible taking of plea.
