Elephants Wreak Havoc in Nakatindi Township, Residents Demand Action
By Justine Akakulubelwa
A herd of elephants left a trail of destruction in Nakatindi Township, Livingstone District, after invading the area around 21:00 hours last night.
The elephants reportedly damaged property, including a vehicle and a house. One of the affected residents, Whitney Sezungo, recalls hearing his dog barking fiercely around 21:00 hours. Upon checking through the window, he saw a herd of elephants.
Mr. Sezungo says that after failing to attack his dog, one of the agitated elephants struck its tusk into the rear windscreen of his Toyota Corolla.
Another resident, Judith Simasiku, reports that her pole-and-mud house, which shelters her son, was destroyed by the elephants around 01:00 hours today.
Concerned residents are now calling on the government to urgently address the escalating human-wildlife conflict in the area, warning that it poses a serious threat to lives and property.
